Exhibition Updates

Bit of a catch up here on the world of Lemonart, all very busy so apologies for the delay! This weekend you can grab yourself a Lemonart jewellery bargain at Che Camille Glasgow which is holding its first ever sale over this weekend (and this weekend only), the designers are offering 40% off on selected stock, so bare the bad weather and cheer yourself up with a designer one off!!!
Along with the sale at Che Camille you can also check out the Harris Tweed Exhibition which includes clothing, bags, accessoeries and jewellery. Here's a little glimpse of my show piece which i made for the event.

I was using the theme of 'Heritage' to explore the traditions of textile art looking at Handstitched samplers, so ive created a necklace as a sampler using the Harris Tweed label, its double sided- the other side being a fabulous panel of the beautiful tweed itself! Smaller versions of the piece are available and exclusive to Che Camille, including necklaces, brooches and rings!!!

On the 8th i am setting up the textile art exhinition at Montgomerys, the open night is on the 13th November, one and all are invited so please pop on by!! All the artwork is for sale, and i have a site specific installation made for the space. Really excited about its unveiling!! Look forward to seeing you all there!!

Also abit of sad news to report- due to The Lighthouse going into administration Glasgow Fashion Week has been postponed, hopfully only until March 2010 but i will keep you posted as and when i know more details! It is a real shame, i was really excited about it and have some great pieces in development for it so we will just have to wait it out for another few months!

Busy busy busy!!!

So many events coming up for Lemonart in the next few months and it's all very exciting!!! I have some dates for you all to get marked off in your diaries!!! The Harris Tweed jewellery exhibition launch for Che Camille is pencilled in for 7th October and has the theme of 'Heritage/Tradition'. For my pieces I'm looking to my own heritage as a textile artist- focusing on the Harris Tweed label in a traditional sampler!! Ideas are buzzing in my head- hoping to get pieces started tommorrow!!
From 1st November until mid January 2010 I will be taking part in a Fibre Arts exhibition at Montgomery's in Glasgow along with two other artists. As much of my work is double sided I'm thinking of making a piece specifically for the window space at Montgomery's.
Lots of new work is in progress for Glasgow Fashion Week, a range of items in all sorts of shapes, sizes, styles and formations!!
I'm so excited!!!

Lemonart news update!!!

Narraitive Jewellery Exhibition THe Darker Side Of Fairy Tales Private View- Thurs 6th August 6-9pm

For this month of August, Glasgow's most stylish boutique, Che Camille, brings narrative jewellery to the people of Scotland.
This exhibition allows the designers to expose jewellery as an art-form. It also demonstrates their ability to analyse the hidden concepts within fairy tales, and develop their ideas into an intriguing piece of body adornment.

No two pieces are similar, which makes for a diverse and interesting exhibition, in which a variety of materials and techniques have been used. Each jeweller has produced one main piece and also smaller supporting jewellery which is all for sale at reasonable prices.

Entry after 6pm, go to the end of Sloans lane and knock on the white door, once through to the arcade, go left and left, then at the end take the lift on the right to the 6th Floor.

The Darkness Of Fairy Tales Exhibition

A narrative contemporary jewellery exhibition on the theme of The
Darkness of Fairy Tales, with work from Glasgows leading jewellers,
launches tommorrow, 1st August 10-6pm Che Camille, 6th Floor Argyll
Arcade, Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

Hope to see you there!!

Exhibition Postcard

Hi all, with under one week to go before the exhibition launch here is a climpse at the Darkness of Fairy Tales postcards. They are glossy and will be displayed in Che Camille! Lucky for all who can't make it as it gives s peek into the other designers work! August 1st 10-6pm Che Camille, Glasgow. Hope you can make it!

Well on Monday I handed in my finished pieces for The Darkness of Fairy Tales exhibition at Che Camille in Glasgow. I am really pleased with how the show piece has turned out. It probably doesn’t have as many tiles on it that I would like- due to trying to keep the cost down but do to that it is very wearable and surprisingly light in weight. As I had been using antique versions of the Beauty and the Beast story and ageing the paper I was then stitching onto, I decided to also age the chains I was using by oxidising the silver with liver of sulphur. It has created a great variety of greys, charcoals and blacks within the chain which I feel needed to be done as the original shiny silver just did not work. As I still don’t want to give away the piece until the exhibition launches on the 1st August, I have included some of my sketches of the design.

Exhibition Dates Ammended

The Darkness of Fairy Tales exhibition at Che Camille in Glasgow has been moved from the 30th July Thursday PM to the Saturday 1st August AM 2009. This is due to a double booking of the venue with Belstaff as they are having a launch night. This actually works better as its during the busiest day for Che Camille so we hope to get plenty of people traffic, there is also going to be a Private Viewing of the work on the following Thursday 6th August 2009, which will allow a quieter time to really check out the Jewellery pieces, try pieces on as well as all the other amazing designs and fashion pieces found at Che Camille!

Fairy Tales- Beauty and The Beast

Just a little update on my ideas for the Che Camille Fairy Tales exhibition. As my work is pretty much always some form of graphic image and my chosen fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast- i have decided to used the text of vintage versions of the book- hand stitching important words and the sandwiching between the perspex. I feel the aged paper and the pristine perspex create an interesting contrast. I'm trying to stick with the moral behind Beauty and the Beast- that beauty is in the eye of the beholder- and only through being good and true in heart people will see past exterior aesthetics and appreciated the real you. Therefore I have been focused on quotes from the story such as the curse placed upon the beast,
“This will bloom until your twenty-first year. If you learn to love another and earn that person’s love in return before the last petal falls, the spell will be broken. If not, you will remain a Beast for ever.”
Here's a photo of work in progress for the smaller pieces which will be on sale throughout the exhibition at Che Camille. The show piece is more elaborate covering the moral from start to finish with the rose image being influential... but you’ll have to wait until the exhibition to see it!!

My Yellow House Art profile is now up and running and you can find my profile under the preview link for the 2010 featured artists. Textile Art Forum Article

In the July issue of the Irish Quilt and Craft Magazine (A Fennel Shed Publication. www.irishquiltandcraft.com) includes an article about the Textile Art Forum I am involved with, which gives a background of the ideas behind each artist or quilters work for our "We Share The Same Sky" 2009 exhibition theme. Its a great insight into the work and what we are trying to do as a group, especially if you were or are unable to catch the exhibition through the year in Northern and Southern Ireland. Go to your newsagents now to check it out!!

Deconstruct / Reconstruct work update

Although alot of my recent posts have been based on the Lemonart jewellery, I assure you i have been working on my exhibiton pieces for the textile forum too!!

This is a little sample of the tile cloth I have been planning for the Textile Art Forum 2010 Exhibitions for Deconstruct / Reconstruct - all the images within the tile cloth are inspired by aspects of consist growth and development which happen around us- such as maps, architecture and urban/city growth rengeration, and also tiles in which i have deconstucted and reconstructed several different cloths.
I am really excited about this piece and hope to keep working on it to get it to a large enough scale that is manageable yet big enough to drape over plinths for floor based installations for a sculptural piece that i have talked about in previous posts.

I think that is all i wanted to catch you up with today but four posts in one day is pretty impressive i think!? Will continue to keep you updated!

Yellow House Art

After an application to showcase my work, the lovely people at Yellow House Art in Brighton have asked if I would be interested in becoming one of their featured artists for 2010 - of course to which I said YES!! I will have work on the online shop and the featured profile online will lead people to my personal portfolio directly. Its great to get work into England based galleries and boutiques now. I will keep you posted on when the profile is fully up and running.

Fairy Tales Exhibition at Che Camille

More exciting news!! I am to be in a narrative jewellery exhibition under the theme of "Fairy Tales" which is launching on Thursday 30th July 2009. It is with a group of about 15 other jewellers, all assigned a different fairy tale to work with. We are to create one exhibition show piece along with a range of smaller more affordable pieces to be showcased for sale within Che Camille throughout August with the exhibition. As my pieces are double sided I have chosen to work with the Hans Christen tale of Beauty and the Beast!! I think the double sided aspect of my perspex tiles will work well with the Good and Bad fairy tale characters and will create an exciting and playful contrast. As I also work with text a lot i am also hoping to find some pretty old versions of the story book to use the actual pages of text within my work. I am really excited about the theme now as i was previously not sure how to tackle the theme and still bring my use of line into the work- but with this brain storming i think i have cracked it and have already ordered my materials to get started!! Will keep you updated on the jewellery’s developments!!

Lemonart at The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse in Glasgow now stocks a large range of Lemonart!!! There are 30 lemonart pieces showcased as from the 15th June 2009. It is a very exciting prospect for me as an artist / designer with the Lighthouse being a main facility for architecture and design- and as I love lines of architecture plans, maps, town planning which I use in my artwork so often it seems fitting to be showcasing work there! Should be exciting!!! There’s a great range of pieces there, from necklaces, earrings, rings, hair bands and cufflinks so there's something for the guys there too! I always wanted to have a male orientated product within my range as I feel the images I work with are always very graphic, constructed and masculine so lemonart can work for guys too.

Even though it's only been a week since my last post there is lots to
inform you about!! All will be explained in more detail tomorrow but
as I'm blogging via the phone I'll give you a little snip bit!!
1. The Lighthouse in Glasgow is now stocking lemonart!!!
2. I have an exhibition based on Fairy Tales with a group of jewellers
coming up in Che Camille!!!
3. Yellow House Art are to list me as a Featured Artist throughout
their 2010 schedule!!!

All very exciting stuff which I will explain more tomorrow- including
a catch up on my exhibition work for Deconstruct/Reconstruct with the
Textile Art Forum!

Update on exhibition work

Just a little update on my present work for exhibition- on the theme of Deconstruct Reconstruct for which I am looking at urban development for inspiration. At present I am building models inspired by city skylines and building blocks, working with layers of wood to construct and having variety in the height of the blocks to reflect the idea of how buildings are built up and knocked down in a continuous circle of development and CONSTRUCTION. I have also gotten perspex tiles cut, which I use within my jewellery pieces to create a tile cloth piece which I am very excited about as it lends itself to a variety of presentation methods. Once I get a few tiles linked up I will post some photos. As a lot of my approach to the theme is in how I am presenting my textile pieces (in quite a sculptural form for some pieces) at present I am doing a lot of planning and development problem solving. I have been working on a textile piece based on road markings and layout, which has also given me ideas into an interactive piece. I will think out all the kinks first. I am also thinking of creating some jewellery pieces for the exhibition based on the theme.

Glasgow South Side Craft Fair

I will be taking part in the Glasgow South Side June Craft Fair on the Saturday 6th June 2009, at the Langside Hall, Glasgow.

All are very much welcome and I plan to be showing, and selling, not only my jewellery pieces but also pieces which I create for exhibitions and commissions.

For more information visit www.glasgowcraftfairs.co.uk for directions to the venue, times, exhibitors and my profile page and write up for the event.

Purchasing lemonart jewellery

You will soon be able to purchase LEMONART jewellery from http://www.notmassproduced.com/ . Which is a website dedicated to the support for independant artists and makers and celebrating all things luxury and special- and not mass produced. Hoorah! You will be able to find items such as this 'Three 5x5cm tile and silver necklace', (the great thing about the necklaces and the drop earrings is that you get two pieces in one due to the perspex allowing the piece to be double sided, as you can see here in these photograghs) along with the drop-earrings, rings, cufflinks and the brooches.

While I am waiting for all the details to be wrapped up, remember you can still order or commission pieces through me directly.

Beanscene Review

Well it has been a week since I took part in the Arts and Craft fair at the Beanscene at Shawlands. It was the first as a seller that I had ever taken part in so I only but to gain from it and even better I made a few sales! Hopefully more events will be coming from this first one so I will keep you posted! In the meantime if anyone if interested in any of the pieces I make then feel free to get in contact. Remember these are one off pieces- no one else will have the same item and they can also be specifically made for you (or a friend) so it can be even that more special!

Beanscene at Shawlands Glasgow

If anyone is free and in Glasgow on Sunday 5th April, I will be selling my Jewellery and accessory pieces at the Arts and Craft Fair being held at the Beanscene at Skirving Street in Shawlands. The fair is planned for 2-5pm. My prices vary in range from £15 due to which items, the work involved, how many tile pieces included and commissions to order are very welcome. Hope to see you there, it has been advertised really well locally and in the Beanscene stores throughout and they are expecting a good turn out so get down there to avoid dissappointment!

lemonart Contemporary Jewellery and Accessories

The jewellery and accessory pieces are a functional yet decorative textile artwork which is then presented within a Perspex tile with stitch. My work is often very graphic as I am inspired by line; for example in maps, architecture, handwriting and plans. My artwork is often in monochrome, working with a variety of white, creams and black tones as I feel this brings attention to the detail of the hand stitching that I include. I used traditional quilting techniques in a very contemporary manner. I work on the textiles on both front and back sides, which creates interesting contrasting images and using the Perspex allows the pieces to be double-sided. The tiles come in a variety of sizes squared of 3cm and 5cm in scale and the products I make vary from brooches, earrings, cufflinks, necklaces, rings and magnets. Each item is completely unique as the textile pieces can not be repeated due to the method of machine and hand stitching I work in. Only one or several textile tiles can be used to make the jewellery which allows the piece to form simple shapes and also to become quite sculptural.

Prices range from £20.
If you are interested in purchasing any lemonart jewellery feel free to contact me or leave a post with any comments, queries and questions.

Post forum work ideas

Since being at the Textile Art Forum week for 2009/2010 with the new theme title of Deconstruct/Reconstruct i have lots of new ideas for work. I am approaching the theme in two ways, the visual image of the textile piece i will create and also in how i present the textiles. I am looking to urban construction in forms of buildings and road layouts, exploring how they are constantly being knocked down and rebuilt, creating layers of refurbishment. I plan for the textile pieces i create to be a reflection on the visual of the road markings and then to present the textiles in a format which reflects the idea of building blocks and layers, creating relief within the work, making it in itself a model of an urban landscape.
I have already started on building some models to work out my ideas.
Well im just back from the Textile Art Forum group week in Ballydugan. The theme for this year is Reconstruction and i have can back with a few ideas i am excited to get working on. I hope to create quite sculptural works which could be floor installations and also wall based. Photos of the work and ideas i thought about while at the forum are to follow.

Who, what, where, when, why is lemonart???

Lemonart is the artwork of textile artist Jennifer Lemon. From large scale work that would suit public spaces/ offices to comtemporary jewellery.
