Just a little update on my ideas for the Che Camille Fairy Tales exhibition. As my work is pretty much always some form of graphic image and my chosen fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast- i have decided to used the text of vintage versions of the book- hand stitching important words and the sandwiching between the perspex. I feel the aged paper and the pristine perspex create an interesting contrast. I'm trying to stick with the moral behind Beauty and the Beast- that beauty is in the eye of the beholder- and only through being good and true in heart people will see past exterior aesthetics and appreciated the real you. Therefore I have been focused on quotes from the story such as the curse placed upon the beast,
“This will bloom until your twenty-first year. If you learn to love another and earn that person’s love in return before the last petal falls, the spell will be broken. If not, you will remain a Beast for ever.”
Here's a photo of work in progress for the smaller pieces which will be on sale throughout the exhibition at Che Camille. The show piece is more elaborate covering the moral from start to finish with the rose image being influential... but you’ll have to wait until the exhibition to see it!!
